What Season is it???

Well, here we are, 5 days into the season...and the hunting has been great! 21 animals, and 7 or so other shots taken. But would you believe.....17 of th e 21 have been HOGS! That's right, someone in the woods didn't distribute the right calendar to the deer, 'cause they are being pushed out of the spotlight by the piggies. Here are some taken to date:

Here is 'UnclPicture_027e Willy', who hails from Chicago along with the three amigos from the Greenville, South Carolina area - Jason, Larry and Rick. Each of the four took a nice hog. Trouble was, they all rode into the swamp stands on the same Ranger, and had to ride out with 4 piggy hitchhikers. Quite the interesting ride. All in all, over 600 pounds of pork came in that night. To see all of the hogs we have taken since August 15, please check out our 2006 Hog Photo Gallery, at right.

We also had Picture_026some luck with the velvet deer. Here is Tony Daffis with his velvet buck that was taken on opening night. To see all of the deer taken so far, please check our our 2006 Deer Photo Gallery, at right.

Hunting Fees

Red Bluff Lodge offers hunting opportunities at the following rates:

Buck_buck Deer hunting is $450 per day and is available from August 15th through January 1st. For your daily fee, you may shoot 1 buck and 1 doe per sitting, for a total of 2 of each per day hunted. All deer hunts include the opportunity to harvest feral hogs (1 per sitting).

Felicia_hog Hog hunting is also $450 per day. Because hogs are feral, rather than native, animals, there is no limited season for their harvest. Our hog population is most dense on the 1,700 acres we hunt directly on the Savannah River. You are able to harvest 1 hog per sitting, or 2 per day when hunting with us. All of our hogs are free-range, naturally occurring animals.

Daffis_turkey_3_1 Turkey hunting is $500 per day, for a fully-guided hunt. (Returning and/or advanced hunters may wish to hunt on a self-guided basis; if so, please call us to discuss arrangements and rates for this.) Turkey season is March 15th through May 1st. We turkey hunt on 7,000 acres, and have an extremely healthy population from year to year.

All of the rates discussed above are all-inclusive; that is, there are no additional charges. The only additional expense you will incur on a hunt with us is the cost of your South Carolina hunting license*. The services included in your rate are:

  • Guide services required for your specie hunted;
  • Transportation to and from your stand;
  • Retrieval service, if necessary (we use tracking dogs);
  • Game cooling, cleaning and quartering;
  • Lodging (including linens); and
  • All meals.

Please call us at 803.584.7363 or email us at redblufflodge@wildblue.net once you are ready to discuss reservations. We look forward to serving you!

*Licenses can be obtained by calling 866-714-3611, or via the internet at www.dnr.state.sc.us.

Facilities

Firepit2 Our goal here at Red Bluff Lodge is to provide the utmost experience to our hunters so that they may relax and enjoy their escape from the rigors of everyday life. Towards this end, we strive for comfort and quality. One popular late night spot for our hunters is at the firepit (shown here). Stories are swapped and friends are made around the flames.

We also have an excellent processing facility for the animals our hunters harvest. Included in your hunt fees is cleaning, cooling and quartering services. We'll pack your meat on ice in your coolers for your trip home. Processing may also be available, depending upon the length of your stay with us.

When arriving at our lodge, we invite all of our clients to use our shooting range in order to ensure that their weapons are ready for the hunt. We have a 100-yard range fully equipped with ear protection, spotting scopes and targets.

Lodging and meals are also included in our 5 bedroom, 3 bath facility. Future plans call for construction of a 7 bedroom, 7.5 bath facility to go online within the year. We offer a continental breakfast before the morning hunt, and a full hot lunch and dinner. We try to feature game meat in our appetizers and in some evening menu selections.

Deer Season is almost here!

We've been working hard in the woods to get everything ready and are looking forward to another great deer season here at Red Bluff Lodge. As of this morning, we have all but 9 of our 70 stands completely refurbished. We have moved quite a few, added some, and renumbered all of our sections to make more sense in their layout. We have had a very dry summer, but have plowed and planted recently as we received a little bit of moisture--we should have some nice green patches when the season starts.

    This year's turkey season was our best one to date! We had fabulous spring weather and our hunters enjoyed an unparalled level of success. We also had more than a few near misses, which made for VERY entertaining stories around the campfire. Our 'turkey fever' is worse than ever!
